Amari Watergate, Bangkok, Thailand

This was my second visit to Amari Watergate, Bangkok, Thailand in two years, and this time I was with a group of people from Kolkata, as a part of Thailand Tourism’s Bangkok tour. On my previous visit, my one night stay at the property wasn’t enough to truly understand the essence of the location as well as the place, so this time, my three-day sojourn promised to be a good way to experience the locale, the rather popular Pratunam Market.

If you are an avid shopper, Pratunam Market is definitely a space you should be checking out. The vibrant nightlife around the location, not to mention great food, is what makes this place a terrific option for foodies. Its close proximity to the shopping segment of Bangkok, Siam, as well as to Khao San, the backpackers’ and party animals’ hub, is another vantage point for the property.

We arrived at Amari Watergate, Bangkok, on a hot summer night around 11 pm, and check out took about 10 minutes – a rather quick procedure at that time. We decided to go for a walk immediately after, and my companions were pleasantly surprised to find places serving food at one in the morning. There’s a convenience store right across the street, not to mention a McDonalds’ that stays open all night. If you are smart, though, you would go to either the two famous chicken rice shops in Pratunam Market region, both open till late. One is Kuang Heng Chicken Rice, that’s well-known for not just chicken rice, but also satay, and the other one is Go-Ang Kaomunkai Pratunam Chicken Rice, which is much more popular. However, this might be my unpopular opinion, but I found the former to be tastier than the latter, especially after eating at both places literally on the same day on my first visit.

Anyway, I digress.

The rooms are pretty spacious at Amari Watergate – my room was situated on a high floor, giving me an excellent view of the city from the room. The bed was comfortable – I had a good night’s sleep. The minibar yielded some bottles of water and drinks, and the bathroom had a comprehensive set of toiletries.

The next morning, I went up for a swim to check out their pool as well as fitness centre. The brand is conscious about health and wellness, so the pool is open from 7 am in the morning, and the fitness centre is equipped with a variety of machines that meets most gym-goers’ requirements. I also liked the well-stocked bar beside the pool for lazy bums like me who like being comfortable during their vacations.

Breakfast was a rather extensive affair at Amaya food gallery, with a rather comprehensive buffet, offering continental, Asian, as well as Indian meal choices. I did stick to Asian mostly, and their Congee was a rather comfortable affair in the morning.

One night, we were provided a lovely Indian meal that consisted of, amongst other things, Paapri Chaat and Rogan Josh. The meal was well-curated, and we were joined by the management for a pleasant evening repast.

Amari Watergate, Bangkok, is a great option for those who want to stay in a centrally located, well-connected luxury property with great amenities and good food. The property can be booked via its own website as well as third party booking sites like Booking.com as well as Agoda, and its definitely one of the options to consider while contemplating a stay. 5. The hotel looks great, it would be a nice stay. Just one question: is the bed the standard length (190 cm)? It seems shorter, and for someone who is just under 1.80, like myself, it might not be a good option.
