My Summer Wardrobe
I love wearing flowing, clothes, preferably made of cotton, in summer. And I have, over the years, found a few sites which provide me with what I need. My first encounter with Jaipuriya was about a year back, when I saw my friend Garima Sarolia-Narera post a photo of herself wearing a beautiful summer cotton top. It was just the kind of thing I would wear, so I asked her where it was from. She replied quickly, stating that she was the owner of a brand, Jaipuriya, and this was her creation. Intrigued, I checked the brand website, fell in love with a kurta, and the rest is history and a figure in my credit card statement. So, when a month ago Garima wanted me to work with her and feature a few new products from Jaipuriya, I was pretty excited. True to her promise, she sent over photos of the products from her latest collection – flowing skirts, long dresses, striped tunics – I was intrigued the mishmash of colours and prints, and wanted to pair them with the things I already had in my wardrobe. I ended up creating a few fun, and very wearable looks, which can be easily carried by virtually anyone this summer.
I met Garima a couple of years ago in Mumbai, at a food meet – the lady loves to cook, and loves eating. But, at the same time, she is also a designer and makes clothing that are a combination of local prints and fun designs. From really simple kurtas to pretty skirts, dresses, and slinky lehengas, the brand is not afraid to experiment and I love it.
FYI, I am a curvy lady (41-34-43), and Jaipuriya size L fits me perfectly, slightly loose around my tummy, which is great because I don’t want to wear anything too tight in the summer. What I liked about the fit of Jaipuriya is that these clothes have plenty of room in them for me to feel comfortable, but, at the same time, are very feminine and show off my curved nicely. Today, I would be featuring three products from the brand. These are from their summer cotton collection, and when I saw the photos, I fell in love with some of the products. After wearing these clothes for the better part of a couple of weeks, I have to admit that these are super-duper comfortable and very easy to wash.
Summer Cotton Look One: The Midi Dress
This was a dress I wanted to try because I liked the colour combination. It ended up being a fantastic pick, because its a summer cotton dress which can be worn all through the day. I tend to pair this with a pair of huge, round earrings, and a plain, flat pair of shoes.
I loved the fact that you could adjust the waist with the help of strings, and the back is low-cut, perfect for showing off my tattoo!
For my face, I kept it simple by adding some MAC Black Walnut Modern Twist Kajal on my eyes, a good few swipes of Maybelline Colossal Mascara, and I kept my lips very neutral, with a touch of Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lipstick Soft Nude.
Look Two: The Tunic
I loved this summer cotton tunic at first sight, even though its not exactly what I am comfortable with – I am not a fan of sleeveless clothes because I am not too comfortable leaving my shoulders bare, but this one was a breeze to wear. I paired this with bright fuchsia leggings, a pair of big sunglasses, a bright pink lipstick (I used The Body Shop Matte Liquid Lipstick Tokyo Lotus), and pretty brown shoes from Bangkok. I added a large, owl-print bag I got from Cambodia inside which I could put virtually all my stuff.
Okay, so I love the fact that each design has little details, and my favorite detail for this summer cotton tunic was the pocket – its perfect for carrying my cell phone.
I loved the owl bag because I totally wanted a bag which would be also really vibrant and colorful to go with this tunic.
Look Three: The Skirt
I picked this skirt almost as soon as I saw it – the fact that it was blue and had a little set of multicoloured tassels hanging from it was what I thought was a lovely touch. The blue and maroon combination is quite easy to wear, and I wore the skirt with a plain maroon top and a pair of earrings I had picked up recently.
I wanted to wear a pair of high heels, so I did. These Catwalk heels were a gift from a dear friend, and its one of my go-to heels.
