The joy of meeting your family randomly may sometimes overshadow everything else, but then there’s the lure of mangoes. Which is what happened when I spied my aunt standing outside Flurys, her yellow saree and black curls unmistakably buoyant, as pretty as the Alphonso Mango Whoopie Pie on my plate. I quickly demolished my share and ran outside. After a brief tussle, and a spurious few minutes of argument, she walked inside and demanded a seat which would let her watch people walk by.

My aunt is rather particular. So am I.

But then, she noted the selection from Mango Mania festival in Flurys, which is on till the 4th of June, 2017. Chef Vikas Kumar has brought back a few house favourites, like the Whoopie Pie, and added a few more – the mango, bread and butter pudding, for example, which is a bowl of house-made bread soaked in a eggy mango custard, studded with chunks of ripe mango and baked.

I also spied an Alphonso Mango Log, resting pretty on the side. Beside it was a beautiful Mango Dacquoise – crisp outside, filled with a velvety cream. I enjoyed a large slice of the Mango Layer Cake in the end, with a cup of Viennese Coffee.

The festival, this time at least, is focusing on the desserts, and I do like the rather comprehensive menu available, a few heritage dishes, while some are absolutely new. I do believe this is a good opportunity to go and sample a few desserts while the season of mango remains.
