True whiskey drinkers barely like anything else with their drink. You would not see them mix their drink with anything. Yesterday, I went to see X-Men: Days of the Future Past, and noted that like the true connoisseurs that they were, both Magneto and Wolverine (Michael Fassbender and Hugh Jackman… and aren’t the two of them super cute?) were drinking their scotch neat, without a single thing added to it.
The experience of drinking will improve from one day to the next, as you create your own favorite drink, and savor it. Whiskey is an acquired taste, and its flavors improve with time. Sit back, relax, and drink your favorite one slowly, and enjoy it, savor it, because it is meant to be loved. Slowly.
But then again, no two individuals are the same, and I have to say, that everyone has his/her own quirk while drinking. Many people do not like whiskey solo – they have to mix it with something. So here’s what I suggest. Create your own poison and own your drink. Make it the way you love it.
Some of the popular serving suggestions include –
1.      Add some water. There are a lot of arguments about serving filtered water, tap water, distilled water (of all things!), sparkling water, etc. I suggest – do your own thing, and drink the way you like it.
2.      Ice – whether it’s the classic whiskey drinker’s choice of exactly two cubes, or a single one, or an entire glass filled with it, add ice to your liking. Do not scrimp, if you think you can’t survive without it.
3.      Mixers – add any mixer of your choice, as long as you can tolerate drinking it. Don’t hesitate to experiment – without experimenting, you would not know what you like and what you don’t.
