I am slightly obsessed with hair colours recently, and yes, when I went to June Tomkyns earlier this year, I got gorgeous hair highlights which looked great! I continued experimenting with products from Schwarzkopf (and yes, I will write about it shortly), but then, I got an invite to check out the new Wella Professionals Illumina Hair Colours at the Tony & Guy Salon in Ballygunge, and I decided to, as usual, leave it to my stylist to do what they pleased. It was really difficult for me to make a choice, so asked the Style Director, Merline, who was really helpful and told me that the treatment was going to give my hair more volume and shine. Currently, at the Salon, there is a considerable demand for this hair colour, since it looks more natural, and the grey coverage is excellent too!

With the approaching festive season, hair colours are in, and Wella Illumina colours come in three different kinds – warm, neutral and cool. There are shades of brown, gold and red to select from, and I was quite keen on getting a shade which would be dark but with mild accents, so the hair colour selected for me was done with my coloured hair in mind. I was asked to select the shade I liked, and I decided with something dark, and the results were fabulous.
The good news is, after care is relatively simple – colour protectant shampoo, conditioner according to one’s hair type, followed by a gel or a serum to give the hair some nourishment. I was suggested one which would reduce frizz and add shine. Ideally, you should get touch-ups done after every month or around 40 days or so.

The entire process of colouring for me took some time. As I had coloured hair, my roots needed to be coloured first, and then the length of my hair. After the application, I waited for about 35 minutes (during which I read a book), and then, my hair was washed for a considerable amount of time, to get rid of the colour, and then styled by the experts. I had mentioned I liked straight hair, so, the final result was quite gorgeous.

If you notice closely, you can see the caramel accents in my hair. I chose to go subtle this time, and am loving my new hair colour. The process, for my hair length, took about 2 hours, and will cost around 4500/-. Longer hair lengths will cost more, but you can get an estimate before you get your colouring done. The result is shiny hair, which, even after three days and two washes, is as shiny as the first time. At present, the Wella Illumina service can be availed through Tony & Guy Salon in Kolkata, or from a few other places, including Head Turners.
