The Story of Black Dog: A Heritage through Time

In the year 2013, we saw the 130thanniversary of Black Dog Scotch Whiskey brand. Founded by Walter Millard, Black Dog whiskey became really popular in the colonies, especially India, and was exported from Scotland to India during the colonial rule. It was one of the favorites of the British nabobs and the army, and Indians soon acquired a taste for the fine flavors of a well-matured Scotch whiskey which had a distinct flavor, and smooth taste, that was inimitable.
In time, Black Dog whiskey was made under the United Distillers Limited banner, and the undiluted spirit was imported from Scotland and was subsequently bottled at Nasik in India, to cater to the Indian market. At first, it was available in the 750 ml. and 60 ml. forms, but after January 2008, 375 ml. 2-liter, and 180 ml. bottles were made available to selected markets around the country. At present, Black Dog is one of the leading premium whiskeys in India.
The person who keeps an eye on the blending of this fine Scotch is Richard Paterson. A Master Blender, he has been the key figure in keeping an eye on the make of Black Dog blend and of Dalmore single malt. At present, Black Dog has a few distinct things to offer to us – The Black Dog Quintessence Aged 21 Years, The Black Dog Reserve Aged 18 Years, The Black Dog Gold Reserve Aged 12 Years and The Black Dog Black Reserve Scotch Whisky. Add to that their latest offering – The Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve, which is a smooth triple refined blended scotch whiskey that has an unforgettable taste and unbeatable flavor. The blend was released after the 130thanniversary of the brand was celebrated, and it has been hailed as a truly distinctive blend which will surely make a strong mark in the future.
