The Great Family Sunday Brunch at Vedic Village, Kolkata

The Great Family Sunday Brunch at Vedic Village is a nice drive away from the city. We had reached the place slightly later than we had thought, and at this point both V and I were pretty hungry. Giving our keys to the valet, we entered the portal. The idea behind this brunch is to have a long and languid day at the resort, eating, drinking, and being merry.

So, keeping in touch with the slight chill in the breeze, there are plenty of activities around us which keeps the eyes engaged. On one end, a magician performs his tricks, while inside, a baul singer makes music, strumming his instrument as he walks around the room.

The buffet itself is pretty lavish, starting from a grill counter, where the protein of your choice is put on the hot grill. I spotted fish, chicken and lamb chops, and picked up a few. There is also a pasta counter, where the pasta of your choice is cooked with the sauces available – there was a creamy white pasta, and a tomato sauce, and you can add whatever you like to it… there are plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options there.

The Sandwich counter was pretty much fun too. I asked for a sandwich with plenty of vegetables, marinated bell peppers, cheese, and then they buttered and grilled it. I also checked out the Jhalmuri counter, which was quite a nice twist.

One of the things I don’t generally get to see at a buffet is a dim sum counter, but here there was a nice little momo counter, with different dipping sauces. I might have gone back to it a few times, and had way more than I thought I would, and the green dipping sauce was both fiery and addictive.

Inside, there were plenty of seats where you could sit down and enjoy your meal. There was a salad counter with a rather lovely cauliflower in tahini sauce, and a South Indian section from where you could pick up some idlis and dosas if you are so inclined.

I was slightly surprised to see no daal or a few vegetable dishes on offer, but there was an Indian Tawa counter, where you could pick up the vegetables and paneer, along with your choice of sauce (makhni gravy, cream, etc), and then ask the server to make something for you. Although I liked the idea, it isn’t something which I feel would be great if there are too many people at the counter.

Apart from the food, there were also a few counters from where you could purchase some funky jewellery or pick up a bread or two. I have been a fan of Sukanya’s for a considerable amount of time, and picked up a couple of neckpieces from her counter, along with a pair of earrings or two. She makes really quirky stuff, so check out her Facebook page.

Green Chilli and Coriander Honey panna cotta

In the dessert segment,  there were a lot of options, including a rather lovely baked roshogolla, but I particularly thought the Green Chilli and Coriander Honey Panna Cotta was exceptional, and the sharpness of chilli and coriander with the smooth creaminess of the panna cota was rather delicate and smartly executed. The Great Family Sunday Brunch is available from time to time and you should keep an eye on the Vedic Village Facebook page for the offers available.
