The Body Shop Black Musk Eau de Perfume Review

The Body Shop Black Musk EDP is priced at INR 3295/- for 50 ml. This is the latest offering from the brand, and there are two more product – a perfume oil as well as the eu de toilette from the range. I fell in love with the packaging the day I saw it, and so, when the brand sent over the perfume, I could not resist matching it with a look. The Body Shop uses community fair trade organic alcohol, made from sugarcane harvested from South America. In Cotopaxi, Ecuador, smallholder farmers re-plant the trees they use to heat this sugar. This helps them to grow their business while sustainably protecting the land.

About The Body Shop Black Musk EDP: Become brazenly seduced by the dual scent personas of Black Musk. The Body Shop’s Black Musk Eau De Parfum is the darkest and most sensual of all. Captivating feminine notes of bambinella pear, intensified by pink pepper and bergamot. Embraced by heliotrope with and aphrodisiac lift of luscious licorice. Further deepened by black vanilla and black musk accords.

  • Our deepest, darkest blend of musks
  • Contains cruelty-free musk
  • Oriental scent
  • Long lasting fragrance

My Opinion of The Body Shop Black Musk EDP:

First off, I was initially hesitating after hearing words like pear and heliotrope, but after smelling this, I have to say, I am quite impressed. I applied it on my pulse points and let it rest before smelling. The first hit is of the bergamot, which is pretty easily picked out by my skin, followed by the pear and a mild hint of ylang ylang, which was there with a touch of nutty smoothness. The base is rather sweetly woody (can I say that?) and there is a touch of muskiness there, which is felt specifically after the perfume settles down for a while, where the fragrance deepens to a gentle sweetness of vanilla, woods, and mostly loses the floral accords which it started with.

The scent lingers for quite some time – on me, it started off as flowers and fruits and ended with vanilla and woods, with a touch of the musk which is apparent but not quite so – definitely an interesting perfume which is going to be a great evening scent for me, and I wished they had launched this earlier  – would have loved sporting this during Christmas and January. I didn’t think it was too bold, and definitely not overwhelming. I wish the dry down was less on the vanilla, but then again, it might just be me and my skin.

The ‘Nice’ Look: The Black Musk perfume for me is a combination of sensuality and innocence, and I chose to wear it in the afternoon the other day, sporting a look which I can easily call nice. This look took very little time to put together – I lined my eyes with dark brown eye liner, used The Body Shop Metallic Eye Definer in Shimmering Steel on my upper eyelids along with a good bit of The Body Shop Big and Curvy Mascara (my current go-to mascara). On my lips, I used a light pink lipstick to complete the look, and finished it with a bit of setting powder to make sure everything was uniform.

  1. Hi Poona! First time commenter. 🙂
You definitely have a much more refined nose than me!!!! All I know is that I tried the Body Shop White Musk and didn’t like it one bit. Found it too strong for my taste. Perhaps I will try this one some time.

    1. Hey deb, thanks for leaving a comment. Well, to be fair, this is a much more complex perfume in comparison to white Musk, and I am not a fan of white Musk either so I would say you need to try it out and let it settle on your skin for at least an hour to really ‘get’ the perfume. I have found this to be much lighter in scent and has a rather sweet finish.
