Kounteya Sinha takes photographs. That is an understatement, though. His photos are aimed at telling a story – he speaks with his clicks. When I first met him at one of his exhibitions called Hiraeth, I admired a photo of hounds, and photos of gulls flying. He spoke to me about the photos, and later invited me to another exhibition, where he featured photos from his trip to Lithuania. We spoke at length then, and he told me then about his next exhibition – Stone.

Stone is Kounteya’s latest exhibition. The exhibition feature more than 60 photographs which document a 95,000 km journey over 22 countries, exploring and capturing the romance of being static — the story of a rock becoming an astounding architectural wonder to the metamorphosis of human beings turning to stone – the phenomenon of unfeeling.

The exhibition is at The Harrington Street Arts Centre (8, Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Opposite The American Consulate, Next to ICCR, 2nd Floor, Kolkata, West Bengal 700071). You can attend the event from 25th June to 6th July. Don’t miss it.

From the Goddess to the women, the tale of Stone is set in lines and layers of colour, the darkness engulfing the light. Stone represents the evocative, alluring silence of indifference, of the immortality that comes at the price of stillness.

The photos will describe in depth the glory of immortality, its strength, its beauty, and of course, the cruelty that lie within. Stone can make you feel in its starkness, but at times, It can make you think about its complexity.
