Maybelline Velvet Matte Lip Color MAT 10 Review and Swatches

Maybelline Velvet Matte Lip Colours are priced at INR 475/- for 4.5 ml. You would find them in Maybelline counters, or at Habbana. While describing this range, the brand says,

“Discover Maybelline’s latest innovation, a liquid lip color which creates a liquid-to-matte sensation while providing petal smooth comfort.”

I went to the stores recently and checked out 8 colours from the velvet matte range (I put up a photo of it on my instagram profile here .. follow me @panushwari for more), and after a short tussle between MAT 6 and MAT 10, picked the latter up, since I am currently going through a sudden urge to wear everything berry and fuchsia.

The packaging of Maybelline Velvet Matte Lip Color is similar to Maybelline’s Color Elixir range,  but instead of a shiny silver top, these have a matte black top. Open it, and there’s a wand which is curved slightly, to help deposit the lip colour properly. You need to be careful while applying, and I would say start with a little and build from there. The pack is easy to carry around, and does not leak out.

Maybelline Velvet Matte lipstick glides on easily, and does not set quickly. It takes time for it to set on my lips, and needs to be applied properly for a smooth application. That means, you have to be careful with the application, to avoid making a streaky one. The product does not have any discernible smell or taste, which is great for those who hate strong smelling lipsticks, and has a smooth texture which glides on easily. You would need to wait for 5-6 minutes for the colour to slowly settle down on your lips, and it is quite easily transferred afterwards. Also, if you eat and/or drink, it will bleed slightly too.

Maybelline Velvet Matte Lip Color MAT 10  is a pretty, slightly cooler shade of fuchsia, is eminently wearable, and it is quite rich and pigmented. I would say it would suit medium to fair skin tones the best, and I always advice people to swatch before buying, so that they have an idea about what might look good on them. It does not have any shimmers or glitters, and applies very smoothly on my lips. It does not feather or flake, and really does not dry out my lips, even after 4 hours of wearing. It is by no means matte, not even after it has settled down, but it is quite nice in texture, goes mostly opaque after two swipes, and hides the pigments on my lips. This is a nice Fall 2015 lip colour, and I can see myself using this a good deal, because its a fun, nice, vibrant day shade, and does not dry my lips out at all, which is one of my biggest concerns during winter.

The lasting power is pretty good too – it wore for about 5 hours, wearing off slightly when I drank water and tea. As I have noted before, it did transfer, but after the initial 5-6 minutes, the colour settled down to a hydrating, semi-matte finish, and after it wore off, left a pink stain which was even and flattering. Reapplication after a meal is a good idea, though.

Overall, I feel that although its not exactly matte, Maybelline has done a good job with this range, and given a decent range of Fall 2015 colours, consisting of bright, pop shades, which would set a nice, colourful tone for the upcoming festive season, and winter. I teamed this up with nothing more than Kajal, and it immediately brightened up my face, and as I love the effect on me, so, I am currently looking at the shades MAT01, MAT06, and MAT11, and would probably pick more up from this range because I find these quite good value for money.
