This review is a month old, but I decided to put up my review for Marco Polo, Kolkata, as I had a lovely time there. Excuse the lack of pictures. I was in a hurry, hungry, and the demise of Sunil Gangopadhyay has made me sad today.
I went in for lunch that day, expecting nothing, because the last time I had eaten there was way back when it had first opened, and I was in a hurry so I quickly ordered something that would not take much time. The waiter suggested a dish of stuffed chicken breast (with cheese of course) and I agreed. My partner did not like me clicking too many pictures, and forbade me to click further, so I was content to take a picture of the glass.
A plate of garlic bread was presented, containing three pieces of thinly sliced bread laden with garlic and herbs (150/-). I found this slightly weird, as three pieces just does not make much sense to me. My partner ordered a beefsteak, well-done, it came with a lot of fries, and was deemed excellent. I would not know because it was also jealously guarded. I was content stealing one fry off that plate.
It was followed by my main, the stuffed chicken breast (around 400/- … I do not remember the exact price for this one). A fat roundel of chicken covered with mushroom wine jus. I immediately decided to cut it open.
Cheese oozed out.
Yes, well, lets not think about the scrumptious crumbed wedges which were piping hot (and I wanted more of it) or the perfectly tossed vegetables. Or the button mushroom-y sauce or the wine-y gravy.
The chicken.
Oh. Oh. The chicken.
It was moist, juicy, perfectly cooked, and cheese-oozey.
And there was caramel pudding (150/-) in the end too, but I was too full to eat it.
My bill came to somewhere around 1300/- for two, sans alcohol.
I would recommend Marco Polo. For the chicken.

Yes, Nivedita. I was really shocked… never ever thought of his age, and how he must have poured out himself in his works until he was gone.
The Sarat Bose outlet is actually much better. Its big, plush and comfortable. The Park St one is slightly seedy.
Indeed I am so sad today. I feel Sunil Gangopadhyay still had to much to write about. Sometimes, even great authors become spent, but he was not.
I had been to marco Polo for once, at Park Street that is, but somehow the ambience at the Sarat Bose Road feels much better
