Lakme Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Color Review and Swatches

Lakme Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Color is priced at INR 750/- for 6 ml. and can be availed from Lakme counters or online at Nykaa as well as Amazon. The thing is, this was one of the products I was quite happily anticipating, especially because I love liquid lipsticks (if you don’t know that yet, check me out on Instagram to see my LOTDs and lipstick reviews), and Lakme promised something different. I ended up with four new lippies to play with, and I wore it while travelling as well as around town. After four weeks, here’s my two cents on it.

What the Brand Says about Lakme Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Color

Velvet matte finish, long wear. Delivers a lush, suede-like finish that lasts throughout the day. Feels feather light on lips and has an intense color payoff.

My take on Lakme Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Color:

The packaging of the new Lakme Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Colors are in the lines with the Absolute lip glosses, only here their sizes have shrunk. The simple silver and black transparent plastic vial easily shows off the shade within, and I checked out the following: Mild Mauve, Vintage Pink, Crazy Tangerine and Wine N Dine. After a good deal of use, here are a few things that I observed.

The lip colors go on quite easily, although the darker colors fare better when it comes to pigmentation. I think in the pigmentation game, Wine N Dine wins hands down. It’s a beautiful dark purple plum that does have a very Fall-like vibe, and it looks darker on fairer skin when compared to the rest. The lipstick applies easily, thanks to the applicator, but I felt that the pigmentation and lasting power of the products need to be revisited. One of the things that the lippies definitely won’t do is stay put after eating and drinking, especially when you are eating something slightly oily.

That said, my favourite color from the lot has to be Mild Mauve, because it is such an easy color to put on and go. It’s a basic pinky nude which is a rather perfect color for office wear, or in a setting where you’ve gone overboard with eye makeup and want a more understated look. Crazy Tangerine looks far better on TT, and her skin tone sort of picks up the reds and yellows from the lippie, definitely giving it an edge over the rest. That said, this one spread unevenly, and faded unevenly too. The other consistent player I have noted is Vintage Pink, a rather easy to wear shade that appeals to virtually anyone thanks to its flirty pink tone, and what I like is the ability to layer it on – one swipe is quite sheer, but the colors are all pretty buildable, and with the exception of Crazy Tangerine, that sort of looks layered on, the others aren’t patchy.

Vintage Pink on Indian Skin Tone

Overall, I can safely say that the colors are pretty good, suited for Indian skin tones, and can be applied sheer or layered on. They last for 3-4 hours, fades after eating and drinking, but doesn’t dry out my lips as badly as most matte lipsticks do. Also, the Lakme Absolute Matte Melt Liquid Lip Colors don’t bleed or transfer much, which is definitely a good thing for the brand.

  1. The vintage pink looks great. It isn’t overpowering and good for daily wear.

  2. Vintage Pink seems so right! Too bad I have already stop putting on stuff on my face but once in a while I do. This is worth a try! Thanks for posting.

  3. I need new lip colors. I changed my hair color and none of mine match anymore. That wine and dine looks so pretty! I wish they lasted longer though. It can be frustrating to have to reapply after eating.

  4. Vintage pink, Thats a cool colour. Adding this to my collection soon. I love to play with lip colours on me all the time

    1. I can safely say Wine N Dine. I also checked the other shades and Red Smoke as well as Mulberry Feast will be a good option if you like slightly bolder colors.

  5. Bought vintage pink after reading your post. You were so right. This is my new favourite colour.
