Inspirit Cleanse is a recently opened Kolkata-based brand, which offers a set of cold-pressed juices to the people of Kolkata. Unlike many brands which pulverize fruits to make juices, cold-pressing essentially presses the fruit/vegetable until it releases all its juices, and, as a result, there are no pulp in these juices. I recently visited their factory where I had a conversation with Mr. Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, the brand’s CEO. He explained to me the details of his juices, and their beneficial properties.
As per the brand, “Cold Pressed is a way of not just protecting the intrinsic flavors of the juices but also retaining the maximum nutrient value of the fruits and vegetables. Cold pressed technology generates no heat and involves minimal exposure to air, so living enzymes are preserved in the juices and allows you to get the maximum nutrient benefits.” If you check the website, you would find that there are a huge array of such juices, plus, there are juice cleanses which you can follow.
Juice cleanses are a very common way to detox and reduce bloating, and they are targeted at benefiting your body by providing it with some relief. The idea behind a juice cleanse is to give your bowels some much-needed rest, and by drinking the juices, you are getting a shot of pure, fresh nutrients, which are naturally extracted from the fruits and vegetables. I have seen this system being applied very commonly in Mumbai, and it is a good thing to see it here in Kolkata. The best part is, they do not waste the pulps – they are rather contributed to farmers who use it for different purposes.
As I was pretty excited to see the effects that a juice cleanse would have on my body, I decided to try out one of the cleanses that Inspirit Cleanse provides, and I was provided with a set of juices for a basic cleanse, which is called the Start Smart. Apart from this, they also have two other cleanses, the Skin Glow, and the Fighting Fit, but, if you are starting off with juicing, I would suggest you start with a one-day cleanse, and begin with this one. The aim of this cleanse was to clean my body and make me feel better, and as I have been continually eating really greasy and oily food, I was looking forward to this.
The Start Smart juice cleanse provides you with 10 250-ml bottles of juices. As per the website, this is a “basic Cleanse, designed for starters of all age groups. This juice cleanse improves the digestive and immune system to get you started by detoxifying your body. Also helps in improving vision, lowers blood pressure and reduces risk of liver cancer and chances of stroke. It has super alkalizing, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.” I received ten bottles – two each of their blends – Immunity, Agile, Restore, Robust and Enhance. Immunity is pretty citrus-oriented, and was my favourite in the lot during the tasting session, so I was pretty glad that I started with it. Its got a good hit of oranges and grapefruit with lemongrass, and is quite a wake-up call.
As the day progressed, I drank the rest of the juices, as per the instruction provided to me by the brand. I did not feel dizzy or faint, and worked as usual. I could not finish the entire cleanse amount of juices – I did not consume one bottle of Restore juice because I was not feeling like drinking it, and I compensated by drinking a lot of water. Apart from that, I had everything, and the nut mylk, Enhance, was very heavy (500 ml!) and I went off to sleep right away. In the next two days, I noticed that I felt more energetic after the cleanse, and my body felt much lighter. I checked my weight, and yes, I did lose some weight (I am assuming that is water weight, and I will probably gain it back, but its nice to see weight reduction overnight).
I would recommend the Start Smart cleanse from Inspirit Cleanse to anyone who wants to eat clean and healthy, and is thinking of opting for juicing as a kick start to a healthier regime. I did not feel hungry during the cleanse, although, at first, it can be slightly weird for you to just keep on drinking. I have done juice cleanses before, so I was not too worried about it, and the juices were quite refreshing. One word of caution, though: if this is your first time, I would strongly suggest you do this on a weekend, or a holiday, when you are not going to do strenuous physical exercise, and would be, rather, homebound. Once you have got the hang of it, it becomes much easier to do this form of cleansing.
