India Online Fashion Week: Choosing the Models

Final Models and Judges at IOFW
For those who are yet unsure what IOWF is, refer to the post I wrote here. What I find really interesting about IOWF is that it tries to provide a momentous, career defining opportunity to designers, makeup artists, models and hair stylists who are yet unseen, but can become huge, thanks to this particular program. Starting on the 25th of July, 2014, this event will continue for a week, and will end on the 30th of July, 2014. It would have a huge participation from India’s fashion world, and can be followed through www.jabongofw.com. Now you can shop the look that you are looking at, and make sure you sport designer wear much before they hit the shops.

The event has been touted to be World’s first Online Shop-able Fashion Week and it will reach millions of audience through www.jabongofw.com . The participation has not just come from top metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai, but also from cities which are not that huge, like Aurangabad, Bikaner, Dehradun, Dhanbad, Guwahati, Lucknow, Meerut and Nasik. Key mentor, Yami Gautam, was extremely positive about the response and believed that it was a sign that India was trying to revolutionize its sense of fashion considerably. Incidentally, Yami will be a constant presence during the IOWF, and you would also see some of the hottest models and designers in the spectators’ gallery while the models walk the ramp.

The judges at IOFW
The event has some top names attached to its credit with one of them being NDTV Good Times, their media partner, who will be showing the event on-air in a package of three episodes. Other sponsors under its banner are radio partner 92.7 Big FM, Philips (official hair styling partner), Revlon (official make up partner) and Ziveg.com (accessories partner).

So, the selection of the models, who would finally represent the designers, were to be selected very carefully, not just by the way they looked, but also how they fit the bill – as there is a wide array of clothes to be sported by the models. The Jury for model selection consisted of three huge names in Indian fashion industry – model Carol Gracias, fashion choreographer Rashmi Virmani and designer Samant Chauhan. They carefully checked through the names, and in the end, after a few rounds and a considerable bit of elimination, selected their final list. From a list that went over thousands, in the end, only 20 models were selected, who would grace the ramps at India Online Fashion Week.

The judgment is on!
Finally, after considerable contemplation, a list of twenty names were called out after the end of the auditions, which was held on the 1st of July. In the women’s segment, Khushboo Kankan, Aastha Ssidana, Jyotpriya Sud, Namrata Shetty, Nikita Yadav, Tanya Malviya, Heena Bhalla, Farah Hussain,Anamika Benn, Neetika Singh, Priyanka Guasin, Aishwarya Singh, Ritu Chauhan, Sharon Fernandes, Arlette Evita Grao, Priyasha Chowdhury won the coveted spots. On the other hand, Himanshu Chhabra, Raghu Katal, Saaib Noor Ud Din and Ravi Goswami got through from the men’s segment.

Break time!
I especially liked the profiles of Tanya Malviya, a semi-finalist in Miss India Universe, and Arlette Evita Grao, who was one of the top finalists for Channel V Get Gorgeous. I found Arlette to be one of the models to look out for… with her beautiful skin and gorgeous hair, she is definitely my favorite. Another promising profile is that of Aastha Ssidana, who was the first Indian World Super Model in 2012 and she has walked the ramps for top designers like Neeta Lulla and Vikram Phadnis. Of course, there are many such girls who are extremely talented, but I would be especially keeping my eyes out for these women.

In the men’s segment, Himanshu Chhabra and Ravi Goswami are definitely to look out for. I am going to shamelessly claim that they are going to be my two top picks from the men’s zone simply because they look divine. But you guys have probably seen them around – especially because Ravi Goswami featured in Men’s Health magazine, and Himanshu Chhabra has done numerous ads and campaigns and has walked the ramp for Varun Bahl and Rocky S.

These gorgeous men and women shall walk the ramps at the IOWF from 25th July onwards. Catch them live at www.jabongofw.com and buy your favorite look then and there! You can also check out some of the top partners for Jabong.com, like NDTV and Revlon.
