GK Hair Keratin Treatment (Hair Taming service) at Head Turners: A Review

I have always had baby fine hair, and while it looks like a lot (because its fluffy), it also needs to be tamed and managed from time to time. GK Hair is a brand I have been hearing about, but I actually had no idea they were available in Kolkata. So I was quite pleasantly surprised to find myself on the way to Head Turners, Short Street, where I was about to get a Keratin Treatment done.

Now, before I begin, let me tell you why Keratin Treatment is useful for your hair. Keratin is a protein that protects hair’s epithelial cells from damage or stress, and is insoluble in nature. When your hair’s keratin reduces over time, it makes hair frizzy. To counter that, Keratin treatment is used. GK Hair prides in making their Keratin Treatment free of Formaldehyde and has a range of products to deal with the after-effects. You are traditionally supposed to do this treatment once every four months or so, therefore, the cost is pretty manageable, given that this treatment is around thrice the cost of a hair spa.

I wanted to see some results, so I decided to go for the Keratin Treatment (they also have a Keratin Spa treatment, where the effects last a month or so). Now, GK Hair uses something called Juvexin, which is a keratin anti-aging protein blend.  GK Hair is the first and only company to use Juvexin in their products, aimed to help your hair look like its natural state. It is obtained from pristine sheep wool through an environment-friendly process and is used in GK Hair products around the world. The Keratin Treatment with GK Hair range starts around 4K-5K for shoulder-length hair as of now, and depending on your hair, the price can go up, so its a good idea to check with the salon beforehand.

Before beginning, I was grilled for at least 10 minutes about my hair type, what I normally use, what kind of colors I have put in my hair in the last few months, whether I have done any other treatment or not, and all of this was recorded before my stylist began work on my hair. This was done because they wanted to figure out which shampoo and other ingredients would best suit my hair. Finally, my stylist zeroed in on a set of products perfect for my hair type (fine, brittle) and began his work.

Then, my hair was shampooed with a special GK Hair ph+ Clarifying Shampoo. Then, after a brief towel-drying, the treatment was applied to my hair and then left there for about 20 minutes (depending on your hair type, it can be anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour). The system I was provided was Formula No. 2.

After that, my hair was blow dried and then a flat iron was applied to it. This was done to ensure the keratin is sealed in. It also made my hair absolutely straight but that effect only lasts a couple of days. Then, the instructions are pretty clear: Don’t wash your hair, tie it up into a ponytail, swim, or exercise for the next 48 hours. Stay inside AC if possible all the time. That helps ensure that your hair really bonds with the Juvexin and the effects last you for a longer period of time.

I decided to give my hair a month to really see the difference, and I have. The primary aim of a treatment such as this is to reduce frizz, and also reduce hair fall. I find that my hair has become smoother and definitely more manageable, but my hair fall rate is normal, so I am unsure if that is me or the treatment. However, it does look and feel good so far, and I bought the GK Hair Keratin Serum and have been using it for a month now, and that sure works.
