I love this time of the year, thanks to the sheer number of celebrations. A few days ago, Kolkata celebrated the Chinese dragon boat festival, and I was there to sample some amazing exotic teas and Zongzi at Yauatcha, Kolkata. I have written about the dragon boat festival before, and this time, the sticky rice dumplings have been filled with an assortment of stuffing, including lamb and pinenuts, chicken and shrimp, pork belly and a vegetarian one as well. A series of wok-fried dishes are part of the menu as well.
My pick from the Zongzi menu is the Lamb with Pinenuts, which has a lovely bit of crunch from the pine nuts, and the pork and hazelnuts come a close second, with chunks of pork belly and sticky rice making a perfect alignment.
The Mango and wine soaked water chestnut cake with Sauvignon sorbet is a fantastic way to welcome the season of rains and a meal for two will be around 2500/- plus tax.
Disclaimer: Poorna Banerjee was invited to sample the menu at Yauatcha by the management.
