Diwali 2017 Offerings from TG By Tanvi Ghai

As I type this, my left hand is fighting the urge to reach for another shortbread made by Tanvi Ghai. Half-dipped in chocolate, the shortbread is an excuse for a little bit of flour and sugar to come together and hold an obscene amount of butter, which, incidentally, is something I deeply admire in a well-made shortbread. Individually wrapped, these are also excellent on the go, and I like carrying these, along with a couple of the almond laden chocolate clusters, wrapped in foil, in a small box.

I first met Tanvi Ghai’s food at an event last year, which was done in association with Zomato. I was gifted a few of her brownies after answering a set of trivia questions, and I got a rather pleasant shock after tasting them. A year down the line, I was even happier to see an assortment of brownies in a large package sent over for me to taste.

I quickly opened the package and saw the three kinds of brownies she had sent – Double Chocolate Chip Fudge, Coffee White Chocolate, and Oreo Fudge – within seconds I had bitten into one, and the next few moments had the world slowly blanking out as I held one of the most moist brownies I have ever tasted so far.

Now, here’s the thing: Tanvi Ghai doesn’t make run-on-the-mill cakey brownies.

No.

She makes fudge and then lightens it up a bit. These brownies had a gooey richness to them which I cherished. While the Double Chocolate Chip Fudge was my favorite (because I am a boring person who likes chocolates), I would repurchase the Coffee White Chocolate over and over again for that perfect bittersweet note she hit that made my heart sing, in glorious epiphany, “Hallelujah!”. Later in the day, I insisted A taste some of it, and she had that same thunderstruck expression on her face as I did, the two of us grinning like fools in the middle of Ballygunge Cultural Durga Pujo pandal.

The Nut Slab she had sent me was unearthed a few days later, sealed inside a tin and slightly forgotten under the whirligig of Durga Pujo. It was spotted one fair morning, quickly broken into chunks, and devoured, a nutty base covered with butterscotch-laden toasted cashew, topped with chocolate and caramel – a delight that made my fingers smell of butter even after hours. +91 9830590898

TG by Tanvi Ghai’s Diwali offerings can be obtained by sending her a message on her Facebook Page, or calling her at +91 9830590898, and it takes a bit of time to get these desserts ready, but I can safely say that the wait is worth it.
