As summer is approaching, its actually quite important to remember that as a country with limited resources we do need to reduce wastage, especially elements like water. Now, I know many people would say: what waste? We don’t waste drinking water. But, question: Do you?
How often have you just left a water glass half-filled?
How often do you just throw away good drinking water thinking its no longer “fresh”?
How many times have you thrown the full bottle of water away just because it was too cumbersome for you to carry around?
There are a lot of other ways you might be unconsciously wasting water. Now, I know its something that you may not be able to help at times, but, you can certainly try and control it. So, what are the tips to stop wasting drinking water?
Well, I will give you the first one. Stop pouring out more water than you need. Sure, you thought you could drink a lot of water. But, despite your resolutions, you couldn’t finish the last half glass of water. Well, just don’t pour so much. Drink your water in smaller portion sizes. Which ACTUALLY helps.
Second, when you are at a restaurant you have no intention drinking water in (many of us don’t), maybe because you don’t feel its safe drinking water, or you’ve already got a drink to go with your meal, just don’t let the server pour you some. I have a pet peeve, of seeing full glasses of water lying about. You just wasted that water, which could have been used somewhere.
THINK!
Let’s say you’ve poured yourself a glass of water and you don’t know what to do with it. This is where keeping a few indoor plants around the room helps. You can pour the extra into the pot, or, even better, maintain a small watering bowl for birds right outside your window. You can pour down the extra water there, and in the process make sure those little critters get something to drink too! Summers are especially hard on birds, and your one little step towards helping them out can inspire many.
If you feel that water at room temperature is too boring, then put the bottles in the fridge. When drinking, spruce the glass of cold water up by adding slices of lemon or cucumber and mint to get a refreshing drink which doesn’t have to be boring.
These are just a few ways for you to conserve drinking water. To know more, you should ideally check out this video by Livpure, follow the hashtag #CuttingPani, or follow this campaign on Change.org to follow the initiative and increase awareness about water conservation.
