I was eleven when my sister was born. Ma fell sick right after she had her, and my grandmother used to fall asleep by eight o’clock in the night. So, my sister’s bedtime would be spent with me. We had a little ritual – she and I. She would be fed for the night first. Ma would feed her breast milk when she was small, but as she grew up, we started including food like boiled rice and lentils, cooked and mashed vegetables, a bit of porridge, and so on. Once fed, then it would be her turn to be gently cleaned. In our house, babies are given a towel-bath before they go to sleep. Essentially, you take lukewarm water in a basin, dip a small hand towel in it, wring it out, and then gently wipe the baby’s face and body with it. This helped my sister cool down in the heights of summer, and she would be much happier afterwards.
After the bath, she would be gently patted dry with a clean, dry towel, and we would apply some baby powder all over her. The smell of baby powder still reminds me of those beautiful times. Then, we would affix a nappy on her, and she would be put to sleep after we would play some more games with her. As she grew older, we would read stories, or sing songs to her, till she fell asleep. There were so many songs she loved, and some, she loves still. She would also love to play peek-a-boo with me, and I would spend lazy evenings playing with her before putting her to sleep. She was a really fuss-free, good baby, but well, she would wet herself in the middle of the night, and then, cloth diapers would not be enough. I have spent countless nights changing diapers, and putting her back to sleep after she stopped crying.
Sigh! If only we had Pampers nappy at that time, then my sister would not be creating a ruckus in the middle of the night, because she would feel uncomfortable wearing a damp diaper. In case I have a baby in the future, I would not hesitate to repeat my actions, but this time, Pampers would be my choice of diaper. I believe it is one of the best brands for diapers, and it keeps your baby really dry and happy. Now, your baby will no longer be bothered by damp nappies in the middle of the night, and you will have a baby who is happy and hygienic. Pampers keeps in mind the fact that babies need to be as clean as possible, and they take every measure to do so.
