Lakme Masabalips, or the Lakme Absolute Lip Pouts Matte Masaba Lip Color, are priced at INR 750/- for 3.7 gm, available in 10 shades and can be bought from Lakme counters or online at Nykaa. I was actually very excited to see these products because I have always liked Masaba Gupta’s style, and felt that the designer’s touch can bring some really interesting shades into the game. With 10 different shades to pick from, I was sort of hoping for a couple of really vivid bright shades at least. Did my wish come true? Well….

My Take of Lakme Absolute Lip Pouts Matte Masaba Lip Color
First off, lets get real: HOW CUTE IS THE PACKAGING? The design of each of these pretty beauties can be called, in one word, brilliant. I love the shades of my childhood weaving through these packages – from the sweet and sour Mango Bite, to the Role-a-Cola, or the chocolatey Melody (I can never say one word without the other), the packaging draws inspiration from candies I grew up eating, and the names are also quite interesting. I got five shades, Cherry Bite, Bubble Pink, Role-a-Cola, Orange Candy, and Caramel Toffee. To be fair, after the way the packaging was done, I was expecting fireworks.
So, lets briefly discuss what the shades are:
Cherry Bite is a beautiful pinky red, veering more towards raspberry than cherry
Bubble Pink is a true blue-based pink
Role-a-Cola is more grape than cola, and has a lovely blue undertone which makes it stand out.
Orange Candy is a basic orange shade quite similar to Colorbar Obsessed Orange (which is a shade I used to obsessed with at one point)
Caramel Toffee is a basic nude brown shade
After getting over the incredibly cute packaging, I decided to try these lipsticks out. To be fair, at the price, I was expecting something which would have a better texture. However, I realized that these lipsticks are slightly difficult to work with. First off, if you notice closely, you would realize that the texture is less creamy than normal matte pout lipsticks from Lakme Absolute (review here), and so, its more difficult to apply. Plus, the lipsticks aren’t emollient enough to become truly matte. Especially Orange Candy and Bubble Pink sort of sat on my lips without blending out, and dried them out in a bit.
The thing is, I was expecting matte lipsticks, and none of the lipsticks were truly matte. As for texture, the best texture was of Role-a-Cola and Cherry bite. I felt Caramel Toffee to be a bit of a fence-sitter, and seriously speaking, Lakme already has at least 4 other lipsticks in different ranges which are very close to this color.
If I have to pick, I would definitely have to say that Role-a-Cola, despite the rather misleading name (I expect it to be Cola, not Grape), had the best feel and texture. Also, it glided on easily, didn’t make my lips feel dry, and stayed on for a good 4 hours without fading. I also really liked Cherry Bite which is quite a versatile shade. I also liked the fact that none of the shades were shimmery or glittery, which is plus point, but I was also expecting unusual colors, which didn’t happen. All the shades are pretty run-on-the-mill (except maybe Role-a-Cola). Also, they didn’t bleed or feather, and could be carried around easily. So, I have to say if you like bright packaging and fun colors then this can be a fun purchase.
